The District  

Reardan-Edwall School District encompasses a large geographic area including the towns of Reardan and Edwall. The District includes one elementary school and one secondary school. GENERAL SUMMARY

Come join our para-educator family of subs! We are ready to train you!! The Para-Educator will be involved with reinforcing reading, language arts, and/or mathematics as identified to meet individual students’ needs, including identified ESL/ELD students; provides direct and indirect educationally related services to all students and assists the teacher in creating a positive learning environment to facilitate the personal, social and intellectual development of students; and these positions pertain to resource as well as self-contained instructional programs, and students enrolled in regular classrooms. This position will also help with recess, crosswalk and lunch duty.

Qualifications

  • A high school education or the equivalent.
  • Successful passing of the fingerprinting process and background checks.
  • Willing to receive instruction and/or supervision from the assigned teacher has it relates to providing educational services to any and all students.
  • Demonstrates patience and initiative.
  • Able to follow directions and respect confidential information.
  • Has interest in working with children with learning problems.
  • Flexible and punctual.

Job Duties 

  • Work cooperatively with student, classroom teachers, parent(s), and administration while performing assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Provide instructions to students as assigned and supervised by the responsible teacher.
  • Provide assistance to the teacher in such activities as developing instructional materials, managing student performance, monitoring results and recording data, managing behavioral problems, etc.
  • Supervise playgrounds, parking lots, commons, lunchroom, and halls utilizing good judgment.
  • Respond appropriately to any special medical needs such as seizures, respiratory, etc.
  • Enforce safety regulations on campus and in buildings.
  • Enforce school discipline policies and procedures.
  • Exhibit confidentiality, initiative, creativity and enthusiasm in performing job functions.
  • Take care of and assist in minor injuries.
  • Supervise playgrounds, parking lots, commons, and lunchroom as assigned.
  • Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with the district ethical guidelines.
  • Monitor for unauthorized persons on the campus.
  • Assist with lunch supervision.
  • Models appropriate and cooperative behavior, including protecting confidential information, consistent with the district ethical guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as required by the Building Principal/Program Coordinator.

Mental Demands

May experience frequent interruptions; may be required to shift tasks and priorities; required to deal with a wide range of student behaviors and academic abilities; may occasionally deal with distraught or difficult students.

 

Physical Demands

Potentially exposed to ordinary infectious diseases as carried by students; exposed to student noise levels.  May be required to lift up to 50 pounds.  Required to work outdoors in inclement weather; stand for prolonged periods; to hold equipment in proper position for varying lengths of time; may occasionally be exposed to recklessly operated vehicles.

 

Reporting Relationships

This position reports to the building principal and works closely with the teachers and other para-educators. 

 

Wage Range 

2024-25 Para-educator sub rate: $17/hr
